-Donate!: We need $5,000 to replace the tiles & baseboards to keep the floors fresh and safe for our customers and community members!

ABOUT THRIFTY

The East End Community Thrift (Thrifty) is an all volunteer-run thrift shop, which provides quality, low-cost, used clothing and household goods, to the surrounding community.  Since its inception in 1993, Thrifty has worked with over 100 charitable programs to offer their clients vouchers to shop free for items they need for themselves and their families.

Thrifty gives a portion of all the donated clothing that they receive to people that are served by these programs, such as Resolve, Sojourner House and The Women and Children’s Shelter. Over the past two decades thousands of homeless and low-income community members have benefitted from the good work of the more than 20 volunteers who have dedicated their time, resources and attention to helping others thrive in the face of adversity.

We are a community service site for many nonprofit organizations, such as Renewal and Pittsburgh Community Corrections Center.  They are an integral part of Thrifty, helping to maintain  the daily operations of the store.

Thrifty is always looking for volunteers!  If you can volunteer your time and strength (or have a gently used donation), please don’t hesitate to contact us at (412) 361-6010 or email us at shawnapgh@aol.com.

If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact Shawna by email, shawnapgh@aol.com or by texting, 412-721-6811.

Other Important Donation Guidelines

  1.  Before giving your donation away, think about the reason why you are getting rid of it in the first place. Is it in such bad shape that no-one else would want it either?

  2. Complete computer systems are preferred (monitor, keyboard, mouse included), as well as printers and programs with instruction manuals.

  3. Check all clothing for rips, stains, and smells.

  4.  When donating baby items, it’s important that safety be the first priority. Please include all parts and directions (if possible) with cribs, car seats, and playpens.

  5. Check books and magazines for ripped, warped pages and mildew smells. Please remove address labels from magazines.

  6. Over-the-counter medications should not be past the expiration date, and beauty products – such as lipstick and rouge – should be new.
